Since 2019, the Canandaigua City School District has partnered with LaBella Associates. The initiative began with a pivotal 2020 vote that launched a $61 million project, for which LaBella provided comprehensive architectural and engineering services.
LaBella collaborated closely with the district, conducting focus group meetings toe pinpoint the specific needs of staff in crucial areas such as kitchens, cafeterias, classrooms, offices, and gymnasiums.
The scope of the 2020 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) encompassed renovations across classrooms, gymnasiums, auditoriums, toilet rooms, corridors, and locker rooms. A primary objective of the project was to achieve a cohesive aesthetic throughout the building, replacing disparate finishes with a uniform appearance.
Classroom upgrades involved replacing casework, unit ventilators, flooring, paint, wall tile, ceilings, and lighting. In some classrooms, existing toilet rooms were expanded to meet ADA standards, while others received entirely new finishes.
At both the Primary Elementary School and Middle School, all toilet facilities were redesigned to comply with ADA guidelines. Additionally, the project included the installation of several new single-occupant toilet rooms to fulfill the district’s desire for gender-neutral restroom options.
Furthermore, the project included a complete replacement of mechanical throughout the building including unit ventilators, air handling units, cabinet unit heaters, and boilers at the Middle School and Primary Elementary, ensuring optimal functionality and efficiency across the facilities.
