Monroe One BOCES: Natatorium Renovation

A New Accessible Pool at Therapy Depth

The Monroe One BOCES natatorium was constructed in the early 70s, and its program has evolved over the years to currently serve a therapeutic function for students with multiple disabilities in the Creekside program. The facility was in need of a major ADA upgrades to meet the owners current requirements. In addition to the critical ADA upgrades the project also addressed mechanical issues such as a persistent pool leak and high levels of humidity and heat in the locker rooms. Another major issue that was addressed was the delaminating pool liner which was removed and rehabilitating the existing stainless steel and gunnite pool shell. Additionally, the project also partially filled in the existing deep end to accommodate a programmatic move towards a therapeutic use.

The mechanical and electrical equipment in the facility was replaced to conform with the new program and with modern guidelines and regulations.

LaBella improved the wheelchair accessibility of the space by widening non-compliant turning radiuses, improving overall accessibility of the locker room and improving wheelchair access into the pool.
