ROOST 2023 World University Games Master Plan
Master Planning for the World University Games in Lake Placid
LaBella Associates had the honor of working with the Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism (ROOST), located in Lake Placid, NY, to undertake a visioning process for the former W. Alton Jones Cell Science Center site. The site is comprised of a 34-acre hillside parcel that offers picturesque views of the Adirondack High Peaks. The intent of this collaborative effort was to create a master plan that positioned the project site for the 2023 World University Games. The planning process included regional stakeholders such as representatives from the Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) and Village leaders.
The proposed site uses included housing for student athletes, seasonal housing for various Adirondack organizations, classrooms, potential dormitories, and other community-related programs. The site provided a significant outdoor social hub, including a ceremonial awards plaza, an outdoor amphitheater, and open space for use by the community. The project design focused on creating a sustainable, net-zero community that could serve as a showcase development through various building methods and sustainable infrastructure.
