Revitalizing Rochester’s Historical Church
Design services for St. Monica’s Church of Rochester focused on historic renovations to the interior of the church. Renovations were made for the purpose of conforming to contemporary Roman Catholic liturgical standards.
ADA compliance was a major focus in the renovations. Alterations were made to restrooms, floor levels, auditory systems, seating in the nave, floor finishes, and lighting.
St. Monica accommodates five city faith communities, including Emmanuel Church of the Deaf. A large blue screen was installed at the back of the sanctuary to reduce visual interference and allow sign language to be better read by parishioners.
In addition to enhancing ambient lighting levels, new fixtures provide focus to the newly restored painted decoration on the arches and beams above.
