Renovations Optimize Space at Densely Populated Urban Elementary School
The District’s major initiative for this renovation and addition project at Watson Williams Elementary School, a densely populated urban elementary school, was to address space deficiency issues. Major improvements included the construction of a cafeteria, the addition of a kindergarten classroom wing, relocation of the library, and introduction of technological improvements throughout the building.
The construction of a dedicated cafeteria allowed for the gymnasium – formerly utilized as both a gymnasium and cafeteria – to be renovated for only athletic activities. A classroom addition provided six new spaces designed specifically for kindergarten. The library was relocated from a remote location on the second floor of the school to a centralized location in the first-floor corridor. This move positioned the library to become the focal point of the school. Lastly, all classroom spaces received technology improvements, including interactive displays, wireless upgrades, and improved data infrastructure.
