LaBella to Present at the 2024 New York Upstate American Planning Association Conference

LaBella’s Senior Program Manager, Michael Cocquyt, CPRP, MBA, and Director of Planning Ed Flynn, AICP, will be presenting at the 2024 New York Upstate APA Conference, scheduled for October 9-11, 2024, in Ithaca, New York.

Hosted by the New York Upstate Chapter of the American Planning Association (APA), the conference will focus on the theme “Planning for Protopia: Designing With Empathy in Upstate New York,” fostering conversations among urban planners, designers, and stakeholders about best practices for creating equitable and sustainable communities across the state.

On Thursday, October 10th at 3:15 p.m., Michael will present “Creating Accessible, Inclusive, and Inviting Spaces,” which will examine key considerations for designing spaces that accommodate people of all abilities. The presentation will address the challenges of achieving Universal Design in natural spaces, renovations of historic sites, and methods for gathering community input to ensure inclusive design.

 On Friday, October 11th at 10:15 a.m., Ed will present “Leveraging Transformative Economic Development to Create a Community of Place in Clay, New York.” This session will explore strategies for effectively incorporating placemaking into a land use plan. It will specifically focus on developing a Land Use Plan for the Town of Clay, New York, which is set to welcome Micron Technologies, a chip manufacturer projected to create approximately 10,000 jobs over the next 40 years.
