LaBella Presenting at the New York State Wetlands Forum’s 2025 Annual Conference

LaBella’s Environmental Engineer Jared Pristach, PE, and Senior Environmental Scientist Mark Kiburz, PWS, CPESC, will be presenting at the 2025 Annual Conference of the New York State Wetlands Forum (NYSWF), taking place April 22-23, 2025, in Rochester, New York. NYSWF is dedicated to fostering communication and knowledge-sharing among professionals in wetland science, management, and policy, with its annual conference providing a platform to discuss wetland issues at local, state, national, and global levels.

On Tuesday, April 22nd at 2 p.m., join Jared for his presentation “Using Engineered Floodplains to Build Climate Resiliency,” which will discuss how nature-based solutions can mitigate unexpected flooding, highlighting LaBella’s work at Jasper-Troupsburg High School in Jasper, New York. In August 2021, Tropical Storm Fred caused catastrophic flooding at the school, despite its location outside of a mapped floodplain. Jared will discuss the hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) modeling conducted for the school, coordination with FEMA to calibrate their Benefit-Cost Analysis (BCA), and the evaluation of various flood mitigation methods developed for this project.

Later that afternoon, at 3:40 p.m., Mark will present “Where to Begin: Wetland Delineation 101 for New Wetland Delineators,” which will provide guidance for early-career professionals navigating their first wetland delineation. Mark will cover essential steps from office preparation to fieldwork and post-field efforts while emphasizing field safety, technical skills, and the importance of ongoing education to stay current in wetland delineation techniques.
