Designing for the Future: The Saunders College of Business Expansion at RIT

The newly expanded Lowenthal Hall at Rochester Institute of Technology’s (RIT) Saunders College of Business is a testament to thoughtful, forward-looking design. Opened in late 2024, the project enhances the student experience by providing state-of-the-art facilities that merge business and technology in an innovative, collaborative environment.

Blending modern architectural expression with RIT’s mid-century modernist and brutalist roots was a key challenge. In the latest issue of Modern Steel Construction, LaBella’s Jerry DeRomanis, AIA, and Monica Simmons and Josh Lawrence of Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH) discuss how the team carefully integrated contemporary materials and steel construction techniques while respecting the campus’ original design principles.

We are proud to see this project featured on four impressive spreads in Modern Steel Construction and appreciate the collaboration that brought this vision to life.
