Earlier this month, Learning By Design magazine announced the winners of its Fall 2024 Architecture and Interior Design Awards of Excellence, and LaBella is proud to receive a 2024 Outstanding Project Award for the Max Lowenthal Hall expansion project at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT).
Located within RIT’s Saunders College of Business, the expansion adds roughly 80% more space, totaling approximately 38,000 square feet across four floors. The building now features cutting-edge teaching and learning spaces, opportunities for innovative research, student lounges, a food venue, an auditorium, and state-of-the-art event and collaboration spaces, including two outdoor terraces.
Learning By Design’s Architectural and Interior Design Awards of Excellence celebrate educational facilities that transform design ideas into solutions that support next-generation teaching and learning. These projects highlight architecture’s role in creating safe, secure, and healthy environments that serve their communities.
This year, a panel of six architects and education facility professionals evaluated 92 entries based on seven criteria: design challenges, innovation and solutions, functional design and effective space planning, sustainability and social impact, next-generation learning, interior architecture and design, and meeting community needs. Facilities demonstrating exemplary design features were recognized with an Outstanding Project Award.
