LaBella Associates Teams With the Buffalo Bills on New Stadium

Local firm selected as lead civil engineer for the largest construction project in Western NY

LaBella Associates, an international architecture, engineering, environmental, and planning firm, today announces its role as the lead civil engineering firm on the development of the new Buffalo Bills Stadium. As the firm charged with site design and permitting for the largest current construction project in Western NY, LaBella is working closely with lead architect firm Populous and leveraging the expertise of several local engineering partners.

With any project, the civil engineering scope of work benefits most from a knowledgeable local partner, which is further emphasized by a project of this magnitude. LaBella has 45 years of experience performing engineering in Western NY, and a local Buffalo office staff of more than 100 professionals. A previous project partnership with Populous made the selection of the LaBella team particularly appealing.

The multi-year effort is being led out of LaBella’s Buffalo office, with a team of 40 Buffalo- and Rochester-based staff responsible for civil engineering work, as well as for Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) inspections, construction administration, and archaeological monitoring throughout the duration of construction.

LaBella assisted the Buffalo Bills in preparing State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQR) documentation, including an environmental site assessment (ESA), stormwater pollution prevention plans (SWPPP), an archeological study, coordination with the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO), geomorphology testing, water quality sampling, and wetland permitting. Following approval of SEQR, LaBella prepared construction documents for the initial phase of the project, which includes site demolition, utility reconfiguration, and mass excavation.

“The Buffalo Bills are a revered and legendary institution here in Western NY,” said Jeff Roloson, President and AIA, LaBella Associates. “It’s a thrill for our staff to be working on such an iconic and challenging project, which will have a lasting and significant impact on the region’s economy, entertainment, and environment.”

Construction of the new stadium is scheduled to be complete for the start of the 2026 NFL regular season. For more information, visit: https://www.labellapc.com.
