Hydro Facilities Assessment Projects

Evaluating and Strengthening a Multi-Site Hydropower Portfolio Across New York

The confidential company owns and operates a diverse portfolio of twelve active hydropower facilities across New York. These assets are strategically located on key waterways, including the Genesee River in Rochester, Wiscoy Creek, Saranac River, Hudson River, Ausable River, and Keuka Lake. Each facility typically includes intake structures, water conveyance systems (penstocks), and a powerhouse supporting energy generation.

To better understand the condition and performance of these critical assets, the Client initiated a comprehensive program to inventory and assess all facilities.

LaBella provided professional engineering services to support this initiative, conducting field inspections at each site to evaluate existing conditions and overall operational performance. The team assessed structural systems, generating equipment, electrical components, mechanical systems, and other critical infrastructure. Findings were documented in a detailed, system-wide report that included asset inventories, condition assessments, and prioritized recommendations to support maintenance planning and long-term capital improvements.
