LaBella Associates is proud to announce that the North Park Community School has received the 2024 Community Award from the AIA Buffalo/WNY Chapter. This prestigious recognition celebrates architectural projects that embody design excellence while making a meaningful impact on the community.
LaBella led the architectural design of the project, working in close collaboration with Buffalo Public Schools to revitalize this historic site into a modern community asset. Members of the LaBella team attended the AIA Buffalo/WNY Design Awards Gala on Thursday, November 14th, where they proudly accepted the award.
The AIA Buffalo/WNY jury highlighted how the North Park Community School exemplifies the spirit of the Community Award. “This project is certainly a welcome addition to our community,” the jury noted, commending its thoughtful approach and positive impact.
The project was praised for:
- Sensitivity to the historic school and site: Thoughtful preservation and enhancement of the original building.
- Welcoming, naturally lit cafeteria: A bright and inviting space designed to foster community and connection.
- Playful design elements: Engaging touches, such as the windows between the cafeteria and corridor, that enhance the student experience.
- Support for walkable neighborhoods and public education: Strengthening the connection between the school and its surrounding community.
The North Park Community School renovation and expansion balances modern functionality with respect for its historical roots. The design provides students with a nurturing, engaging learning environment while extending educational access in a walkable, neighborhood-friendly location.
We are honored to have collaborated with Buffalo Public Schools on a project that reflects our shared commitment to creating spaces that enrich lives and communities. This recognition from AIA Buffalo/WNY underscores the power of thoughtful, community-focused design to make a lasting impact.
