U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Brownfields Grant Program – Job Training Grants

Purpose
To help municipalities, nonprofits, and other eligible organizations build local workforces to perform assessment, cleanup, or preparation of contaminated sites (including brownfields) for reuse.

Eligible Applicants
Local, county, state, and Tribal governments; regional planning or redevelopment agencies; workforce investment boards and one-stop centers; college and universities; and 501(c)(3) nonprofits affected by a contaminated site, including brownfields.

Funding Details

  • Maximum Funding: $500,000 over 5 years.
  • Funded Activities Include: Instructors, training materials, licensing and testing fees; work gear, drug testing, and health exams; job placement and employer outreach; participant support (childcare, stipends, transportation).

Current Brownfields Funding Opportunity

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Brownfields Grant Program – Multipurpose, Assessment, and Cleanup Grants

The purpose of this grant is to address sites contaminated by hazardous substances, pollutants, or contaminants (including hazardous co-mingled with petroleum) and petroleum. 

Multipurpose Grant

Purpose

Multipurpose Grants are appropriate for communities that have identified, through community engagement efforts, a discrete area with one or more brownfield sites.

Eligible Applicants

  • Maximum Funding for Multipurpose Grants: $1,000,000 for 5 years.

Cleanup Grants provide funding to carry out cleanup activities at brownfield sites owned by applicant.

Current Brownfield Funding Opportunity

U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development (USDA RD) Water & Waste Disposal Loan & Grant Program

Purpose

Provides funding for clean and reliable drinking water systems, sanitary sewage disposal, sanitary solid waste disposal, and storm water drainage to households and businesses in eligible rural areas.

Eligible Applicants

State and local governments, non-profit corporations and Indian Tribes. Rural areas and towns with populations of 10,000 or less and Tribal lands in rural areas.

Funding Details

  • Maximum Funding: Long-term (up to 40 years), low-interest loans based on median household income of the area being served. (Poverty 3.125%, intermediate 4.25%, market 5.2.5%).
  • Funding Priorities: Drinking water sourcing, treatment, storage and distribution, sewer collection, transmission, treatment and disposal, solid waste collection, disposal and closure, storm water collection, transmission and disposal.

Current Environmental – Water Quality Funding Opportunity

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Midsize & Large Drinking Water System Infrastructure Resilience & Sustainability Program

Purpose

The Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) Section 1459F authorizes the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to establish the Midsize and Large Drinking Water System Infrastructure Resilience and Sustainability Program. This grant program assists medium and large size public water systems with protecting drinking water sources from natural hazards, extreme weather events, and cybersecurity threats.

Eligible Applicants

Public water systems that serve a population of 10,000 people or more and address one of the national priority areas.

Funding Details

  • Maximum Funding: National Priority Area 1- $1,187,500. National Priority Area 2 – $2,375,000.
  • Match Requirements: Applicants must demonstrate in their application how they will meet the minimum cost share requirement of 10% of the total project cost (federal plus non-federal match) for the project.
  • Funding Priorities: Total of 6 awards will be granted.

Natural Resources Funding Opportunity

Water Resources Research ACT Program National Competitive Grants RY2025 Program Announcement for Per and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS)

Purpose

Research pertaining to PFAS in water resources in each state or territory served by the Water Resources Research Institutes under the Water Resources Research Act. Research is needed to better understand these interactions and guide management decisions that will improve water resources at the regional or national scale. Media of interest include (in ranked order) (1) tissues/plasma, (2) sediment, (3) air or interfaces, (4) water.

Eligible Applicants

Awards are available only to Water Resources Research Institutes established pursuant to the provisions of Section 104 of the Water Resources Research Act.

Funding Details

  • Maximum Funding: $309,000
  • Match Requirements: Each applicant must match each federal dollar provided with not less than one dollar from non-federal sources.
