LaBella Takes Bold Step Toward Net-Zero Carbon with SE 2050 Commitment

LaBella Associates has officially joined the SE 2050 Commitment Program. This nationwide initiative, led by the Structural Engineering Institute (SEI), is focused on achieving net-zero embodied carbon in structural systems by 2050. Embodied carbon refers to the greenhouse gases released throughout the lifecycle of a product or system—from raw material extraction to transportation, manufacturing, construction, maintenance, renovation, and eventual end-of-use.

SE 2050 Commitment Program Goals

This step reflects our continued dedication to sustainability, innovation, and leadership in reducing the environmental impact of our work. As signatories, we are committing to:

  • Tracking and reporting embodied carbon in our structural projects,
  • Learning and sharing best practices to reduce embodied carbon,
  • Collaborating with clients and industry partners on low-carbon solutions, and
  • Developing an Embodied Carbon Action Plan (ECAP) to guide our efforts.

Joining SE 2050 aligns with our mission to design smarter, more sustainable buildings and infrastructure. It is a significant step in our journey to lead by example and shape a better future for the built environment. We are proud to be part of a growing community of structural engineers driving change and taking responsibility for the future of our planet.

We are proud to reach this milestone in our sustainability efforts. As we implement our Action Plan, we remain dedicated to collaborating across teams to achieve our goals and make meaningful progress toward reducing embodied carbon.
