LaBella to Present on New Wetlands Regulations at NYAOT’s 2025 Planning and Zoning School

LaBella’s Environmental Permitting and Compliance Managers, Shelby Sova, PWS, and Meredith Ellis, CE, PWS, will be presenting at the New York Association of Towns’ (NYAOT) 2025 Planning and Zoning School on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, in Binghamton, New York.

At 9:10 a.m., join Shelby and Meredith for their session, “New York’s New Freshwater Regulations—Wetlands and Wetlands of Unusual Importance.” Their session will cover the first major updates to New York State’s freshwater wetlands regulations since the 1980s.

Following legislative amendments passed in 2022, key changes to the State Freshwater Wetlands Law took effect on January 1, 2025. Shelby and Meredith will explain the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s updated procedures for determining wetland jurisdiction and discuss how the revised regulations may impact development projects across the state.

Founded in 1933, NYAOT was established to unite and preserve town governments throughout New York State. Today, its mission includes advocating for towns’ rights at the state and federal levels, providing education and resources to town officials, and offering support to local governments through training, certification, research, insurance programs, and legal guidance.
