Wilmington Aquatic Center
Dive Into Wilmington's New Community Aquatic Center
The Wilmington Aquatic Center (WAC) and ACCESS Inclusive Recreation Center will be the heart of the new Olsen Farm Recreation Village, a transformative development on the historic Olsen Farm adjacent to I-40 at Murraryville Road. LaBella has taken on the design of a state-of-the-art swimming facility. Open year-round to individuals of all ages and abilities, the WAC aims to promote water safety while enhancing the health, fitness, and well-being of the entire community.
The WAC will host an impressive array of features, including instructional, therapeutic, recreational and competitive swimming programs in its multiple pools, including indoor and outdoor 50 meter Olympic-size pools. The WAC will offer swimming lessons for all ages and abilities, aquatic therapy, lifeguard, first responder and military training. As a training hub for high school and age group swim teams, master swimmers and triathletes, the WAC will address a critical need in New Hanover County, whose public schools lack aquatic facilities.
Specialized programs include aquatic physical therapy for children, adults, and veterans with disabilities; accessible activities for individuals of all abilities; and initiatives like scuba training and PTSD-reduction programs through ACCESS SOAR. The splash pad, designed for fun and social connection, adds a playful element to the facility.
The WAC is a key component of the broader Olsen Farm Recreation Village, which will also feature green spaces, accessible trails, outdoor entertainment venues, hotel, residential, retail options, dining, and more—a vibrant destination for recreation and community engagement.
