St. John Fisher College – Wegmans School of Nursing
Designing Immersive Simulations for Nursing Students
Wegmans School of Nursing at St. John Fisher College approaches its field in a way that positively prepares culturally diverse individuals, families, and communities. LaBella Associates provided master planning and architectural design for this 30,000 sq. ft. facility, which features simulation laboratories and multimedia assembly rooms. Additional program elements include departmental space for mental health counseling, the Wellness Center, and the Human Services administration. Developed in the heart of the campus, the three-level facility completes the School of Sciences and provide physical connection to the adjacent Campus Center and Residence Halls.
With the continued success and growth of the College’s Wegmens School of Nursing, LaBella designed a 10,000 sq. ft. addition to the original building that features cutting-edge, immersive learning environments. Students train in realistic individual patients’ rooms that simulate inpatient bedside, pediatrics, and home care environments, each operated by adjacent control rooms and complete with simulated headwalls. Simulations are captured and debriefed with students for interactive engagement and extended learning sessions. The remainder of the building houses a simulated pharmacy, formal and informal gathering spaces, and large general-purpose classrooms.
