Several members of LaBella’s Civil Engineering team will be speaking at the Edwin C. Tifft Jr. Water Supply Symposium, hosted by the New York Section of the American Water Works Association (AWWA). Being held September 17–18, 2025, in Syracuse, New York, the symposium is recognized as New York’s leading technical event for water professionals, featuring discussions on emerging challenges, practical solutions, and recent developments across the water industry.
On Thursday, September 18th, at 11:30 a.m., Senior Civil Engineer Pierre Brissette, PE, LEED AP, and Civil Engineer Alyssa Burnell, PE, will present “Town of Wawarsing—The Race for Clean Water.” This session will explore the discovery of leaks in the Rondout West Branch Tunnel of the NYC Delaware Aqueduct, the resulting impact on private wells in Wawarsing, New York, and the urgent need for an alternative water source. Pierre and Alyssa will also highlight LaBella’s role in identifying a viable aquifer and designing a complete water distribution system to support affected residents prior to aqueduct repairs.
The New York Section of AWWA is the state’s largest organization focused on ensuring a safe and sustainable water future. With more than 2,000 members—including water treatment plant operators, distributors, consulting engineers, contractors, students, and government officials—the section provides professional development and training, technical resources, and advocacy for the water community.
