City of North Tonawanda Marks Completion of Smart Growth 2.0 Project
Another LaBella park and streetscape project reaches completion in New York.
The City of North Tonawanda, New York, recently celebrated the completion of the Smart Growth 2.0 project!
Smart Growth 2.0 builds on the City’s Downtown Placemaking project, completed in 2021 as part of the City’s $2.5 million Smart Growth Community Fund award. That effort focused on enhancing economic vitality through strategic investments in public spaces, streetscapes, and infrastructure.
This latest phase was supported by $1 million in Downtown Revitalization Initiative funding and $200,000 from the Niagara River Greenway Commission. LaBella provided multidisciplinary design and construction phase services, including landscape architecture, civil engineering, and electrical engineering, for the following improvements:
- New landscaping, reconfigured walkways, seating, dining tables, bike racks, site lighting, irrigation, and improvements supporting a new clock tower feature at Charles Fleischmann Park
- Electric vehicle charging stations at the Manhattan Street parking lot
- Replacement of deteriorated paver areas along Webster Street with exposed-aggregate tinted concrete
- New pedestrian lighting along Webster Street
Construction was completed by Scott Lawn Yard and Miller Construction.
Local government officials, state agencies, consultants, contractors, and community partners gathered for a ribbon-cutting ceremony on September 2, 2026, at Charles Fleischmann Park.
