
LaBella’s Director of Waste & Recycling, will moderate a panel discussion at the National Waste & Recycling Association’s (NWRA) Mid-Atlantic Conference 2026, taking place October 5–7 in Hot Springs, Virginia.
The session, “Fairfax County Battery Take-Back Event – Planning, Execution, and Lessons Learned,” will be held on Tuesday, October 6, at 1:30 p.m. and feature Jeff Edwards of Evergreen Disposal, Lisa Kardell of Waste Management, Inc., and Gen O’Sullivan of NWRA.
Together, the panelists will discuss Fairfax County’s battery take-back event from initial planning through implementation and results. The session will cover logistics, staffing, safety considerations, public outreach, and day-of-event operations, while highlighting lessons learned and the factors that contributed to the event’s success.
Attendees will gain practical strategies for organizing similar battery take-back events, increasing community participation, and promoting the safe disposal of lithium batteries through effective outreach and public awareness campaigns.
