The Foundries District: Forging a New Day for Development While Honoring the City’s Manufacturing Foundation
Johanna will join a panel of industry and regulatory professionals from the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC), New City Properties, Perimeter Properties, and Centergy Group.
This session will highlight the multi-decade brownfield redevelopment of Chattanooga’s South Broad District, including the Foundries District. The success of this transformation is reflected in the opening of Erlanger Park—the new home of the Chattanooga Lookouts—located on the former U.S. Pipe and Wheland Foundries sites along I-24.
Panelists will also discuss other recent brownfield redevelopment projects in Chattanooga and Hamilton County, showcasing a range of public-private partnerships, advanced remediation techniques, and innovative conservation strategies.
Thursday, May 14 | 3:00 p.m.
Home Run Brownfields Panel
Johanna will join industry and agency experts from TDEC, Perimeter Properties, and Stantec to share insights on the transformation of Chattanooga’s former U.S. Pipe site into a major community asset.
Once one of the city’s largest foundries for more than a century and vacant for nearly 20 years, the site is now being redeveloped through TDEC’s Voluntary Cleanup Oversight and Assistance Program. Panelists will discuss the technical, administrative, and legal solutions that have helped streamline the process—saving time, conserving land resources, and reducing costs.
