LaBella Associates joined community leaders, project partners, and residents on June 30, 2026, to celebrate the grand opening of Strand Commons, a new public art park and gathering space in the heart of downtown Endicott, New York.

The $1.1 million project transforms a former municipal parking lot into a destination for community connection, arts, culture, and economic revitalization. The park’s name honors the historic Strand Theater, which once stood on the site, serving as a community landmark for nearly 40 years.

Working with the Broome County Department of Planning and Economic Development and the Village of Endicott, LaBella provided landscape architecture, engineering, and design services for the project. Our team envisioned a flexible, multi-generational public space that encourages placemaking while celebrating the history and identity of the Village.

Designed to serve as a year-round community hub, Strand Commons will host outdoor performances, public events, and other programming that supports continued downtown revitalization. Features include:

  • Performance pavilion for concerts and community events
  • Interactive public art installations
  • Interpretive signage
  • Smart technology
  • Intimate seating areas
  • Thoughtfully designed landscaping
  • Decorative paving
  • Colorful site furnishings
  • Compelling lighting

At the center of the park is a six-foot illuminated steel sphere sculpture featuring iconic elements of Endicott’s history, including the Square Deal Arch.

“This transformation is monumental to the Village of Endicott because it shows the direction we are going as a community.” – Village of Endicott Mayor Nick Burlingame

Future enhancements are planned to include murals on surrounding building facades, additional public art installations, and expanded interactive features.

The project was funded in part by the Greater Binghamton Fund and the Village of Endicott’s New York State Downtown Revitalization Initiative award. Construction was completed by Boland’s Excavating & Topsoil.

Congratulations to the Village of Endicott, Broome County, and all the partners whose collaboration helped bring this exciting community asset to life. LaBella is proud to have played a role in creating a space that will serve residents and visitors for generations to come.
