LaBella Celebrates the Ribbon Cutting at Maplewood Nature Center
Community leaders, project partners, and residents gathered on July 16, 2026, to celebrate the official ribbon cutting of the Maplewood Nature Center, marking the completion of a transformative $7.8 million rehabilitation project in Rochester’s Maplewood Park.
Nestled along the Genesee River, the reimagined nature center breathes new life into a historic 1945 building, creating an immersive destination where visitors can explore the region’s flora, fauna, and geology through interactive exhibits, hands-on learning experiences, and outdoor programming. The project reflects a shared vision to expand access to environmental education while fostering deeper connections between the community and the natural world.
As part of the integrated design team, LaBella provided MEP, structural, and energy engineering services to support the City of Rochester’s goal of achieving net-zero annual energy consumption for the facility. LaBella also helped secure up to $900,000 in funding to advance the project’s carbon neutrality objectives, contributing to the City’s broader sustainability initiatives.
Led by Architectura PC and developed in collaboration with the Rochester City School District, Rochester Museum & Science Center, Seneca Park Zoo, and the University of Rochester, the Maplewood Nature Center will serve as a hub for outdoor equity, environmental stewardship, and nature-based learning for youth and residents of all ages. The revitalized facility stands as a lasting community asset, celebrating the park’s rich natural heritage while inspiring future generations to engage with and care for their environment.
