LaBella Honored With Engineering Excellence Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Alabama!

 

On February 4, 2026, the Baldwin County Materials Recovery Facility received an Engineering Excellence Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Alabama (ACEC/Alabama). The project, developed for the Solid Waste Disposal Authority of Baldwin County, was recognized with the Grand Award in the Environmental category.

The Engineering Excellence Awards honor design achievements of superior skill and ingenuity. Projects are judged on a rigorous set of criteria, including complexity, innovation, and value to society.

Baldwin County Materials Recovery Facility

Designed to process 40,000 tons of materials per year, the Baldwin County Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) is a 62,000 sq. ft. facility located in Summerdale, Alabama. The first MRF along Alabama’s Gulf Coast, this facility is comprised of a 50,000 sq. ft. recycling material receiving and processing area equipped with state-of-the-art sorting technology, including four optical sorters and a full suite of recycling equipment. Additionally, a 12,000 sq. ft. office building houses the Baldwin County Solid Waste Disposal Authority and a large public outreach and education center.
