LaBella’s Senior Planner Derik Kane, AICP, CNU-A, will present at the New York Planning Federation’s 2026 Annual Conference, taking place April 20–21 in Cooperstown, New York.
Join Derik on Tuesday, April 21, at 8:30 a.m. for “Mapping Opportunity: Using GIS for Housing and Conservation Planning.”
Drawing on insights from LaBella’s Herkimer County Housing Study and Catskill Watershed Vitality Study, he will demonstrate how Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and automated script analysis can be applied to assess developable lands and identify optimal sites for new housing or for preserving critical natural resources. Derik will highlight how data-driven mapping tools can balance growth needs with conservation priorities, supporting smarter land-use decisions.
