A Cohesive Aesthetic
The four EMS stations are connected by strong branding.
Each facility was designed with a similar layout, including apparatus bays, a main living quarters, lockers, exercise room, wash, toilet and shower facilities, quiet room, open-space-concept kitchen and lounge, administrative offices, and charting work area.
The building materials are mirrored across all four sites, with fiber-cement clapboard siding and trim above a masonry water table, gable roofs with decorative wood bracket eave, and overhang supports reminiscent of craftsman style architecture on the exterior. Interior spaces feature masonry bearing walls, cold form metal framing, and wood truss roof construction.
Construction in Parallel
The Rose, Sodus, and Walworth Substation projects were delivered through a traditional design, bid, build contract approach with the construction work awarded in five prime contracts. The three facilities were bid as a single, multiple-prime competitive bid package to take advantage of purchasing and construction efficiencies, particularly since the buildings are near replicas of one another. All three sites were progressed simultaneously with an aggressive schedule of 18 months from design to construction.
