Roswell Park Scott Bieler Amherst Center

Transforming Cancer Treatment in Amherst, New York

The Roswell Park Scott Bieler Amherst Center marks a major milestone in Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center’s history as its first new building outside the downtown Buffalo campus. The $23 million, 30,000-square-foot center expands Roswell Park’s renowned cancer care, providing high-quality outpatient oncology services to northern Western New York.

The Amherst location offers specialized care in lymphoma, gynecologic, urologic, dermatologic, gastrointestinal, thoracic, and breast cancers, effectively serving a large patient base in northern communities. Designed with patient accessibility in mind, the two-story facility is situated in a high-visibility location along I-290, with ample free parking for easy access.

The state-of-the-art center features a core and shell design with a complete interior fit-out that supports a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic services. It includes specialized rooms for MRI, CT, PET/CT, nuclear imaging, X-ray, ultrasound, and bone density scans, along with an onsite pharmacy and blood draw lab. Additionally, the center provides chemotherapy infusions, lab work, and critical treatments available only through clinical trials.

LaBella provided a range of architecture and MEP/FP engineering services for this project. Our architecture team led the core and shell design, collaborated with Roswell Park’s design staff on interior layouts, shielding requirements, and finishes. We also prepared construction documents and provided construction administration services, ensuring compliance with New York State Department of Health regulations and project specifications. Our MEP/FP team designed the HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems, ensuring alignment with specialized imaging equipment needs.

With its mini-hospital model and integration of advanced medical technologies, the Roswell Park Scott Bieler Amherst Center ensures comprehensive care for patients north of Buffalo, significantly reducing the need to travel to the downtown campus. The center strengthens Roswell Park’s presence in the suburbs and furthers its mission to deliver cutting-edge cancer care closer to home, enhancing community wellness and the patient experience while maintaining the highest standards of care.
