Daniel Brooks to Present on Lithium Battery Safety at the Tennessee Sustainability Conference

 

Daniel Brooks, AHMM®, LaBella’s Sustainability Manager, will be speaking at the Tennessee Sustainability Conference, being held August 19—21, 2026, in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Organized by the Tennessee Recycling Coalition, the Tennessee Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Tennessee Environmental Conference, this annual event brings together industry professionals to explore new technologies, regulations, recycling programs, and best practices in environmental sustainability.

On Thursday, August 20, at 10:00 a.m., Daniel will discuss lithium battery safety during a session titled “Tennessee’s Growing Battery and Vape Issues.” He will cover the following topics:

  • Basic battery chemistries, types, and how they differ
  • Key battery hazards, including short-circuiting and thermal runaway
  • Signs associated with damaged, defective, or recalled (DDR) batteries
  • Training requirements, emergency response protocols, and first aid procedures that help ensure personnel safety in the event of a battery release, fire, or exposure incident
