Arkport Central School District: 2019 Capital Improvements Project

Arkport Central School District wished to create a secure entry procedure into the school to control potential threats from entering student-occupied spaces. Centralizing the school and District office spaces to the front of the building and modernizing the spaces ensures that visitors are fully contained within staff-occupied spaces unless authorized to enter the remainder of the school building. The modernized office spaces provide full visibility and collaboration for staff between offices and communal spaces to improve instructional planning.

The project also provides a new fitness center within the gymnasium space for use during physical education classes as well as sports athlete strength training. This dedicated fitness center enables safe weight training instruction for students and an opportunity to use the space during and after school hours without entering the remainder of the school building.

All toilet rooms within the building were also fully reconstructed and modernized to meet current code compliance, providing a standard design and material palette throughout. In addition, several toilet rooms were converted to fully gender-neutral, single-use spaces with a communal hand washing station to improve general health and hygiene for students and staff.
