Sergio obtained a master’s degree in civil engineering and transportation from the Polytechnic University of Madrid, Spain, and furthered his education at Syracuse University and the University of Rochester. His leadership over the years in projects and in the management of LaBella Associates has contributed to the growth of the company and the betterment of the Rochester community.
Sergio was the recipient of the 1993 Rochester Civil Engineer of Year Award and in 2012 he was recognized as the Rochester Business Person of the Year. He was also named the 2012 Rochester Engineer Society Engineer of the Year and Rochester Hispanic Business Person of the year. Sergio was also selected for induction into the 2016 class of the Rochester Business Hall of Fame. He also received the Burton S. August, Sr Award for Community Leadership, one of the highest awards from the Association of Fundraising Professionals at the nationally celebrated National Philanthropy Day in 2017. He was a recipient of the RBJ’s Icon Honor Awards in 2018.
Sergio’s commitment to the community has led him to be part of a number of organizations. He serves as Chair of the Board of the Rochester Convention Center Management Corporation, Chair of RochesterWorks! and Workforce Investment Board and a member of the Rochester Economic Development Corporation (REDCO) Board and the University of Rochester School of Nursing National Council. He also is a member and past chair of the MCC Foundation Board, Nazareth College Board of Trustees and Honorary Member and past chair of the Geva Theatre and WXXI boards. He is a Past Chair of Midvale Country Club Board and past member of the Genesee Valley Club Board of Governors.
Sergio has lived in the Rochester area since 1978 with his wife, Mary Ann and their two sons, Damian and Gabriel.
